Can anyone tell me does the Riv downtube shifters work on with 9 speed cassettes? Should shifting pass 8 speed with friction shifter, users should use index? I am getting mixed information about this since there is some information on the internet that friction shifting is not good pass 8 speed r

The gear on the seatpost seams like an awkward position to place a gear. If it had any advantage, it would be on the type of bicycling that did not require you to shift to much. I would think in riding, you would want a gear somewhere near the riding position that you are in. Having it at the seat
