I monitored the weather forecasts up through Friday night so I could
choose between my fendered and bagged Sam Hillborne and my go-fast
Litespeed. The Litespeed won and I had a glorious ride both ways. I

My Sunday paper comes in a long thin plastic bag that fits snugly over my

I think Grant puts lots of time, thought and effort into the name, decals,
color, and head badge so it coherently matches the remaining physical
properties of the bike. IMHO he really got it right on the Roscoe as he always
does. That's something that differentiates Rivs from most everything in

I went with Rapid Rise when I built up my Sam this summer. The nifty
thing about RR is how intuitive it is with bar-end shifters: pull up

I've been riding my Sam Hillborne six days a week since last summer
with a Phil-Rivy rear hub and IRD freewheel. It has racked up
considerable mileage commuting through show, slush, slop, salt down to
single digit temperatures and I've had absolutely zero problems with
anything. FWIW, the bike wi

As you know I hung on to the Honjos when we swapped Salukis. They've

When you amortize the price difference (Bean v. Riv) over 15 years you'll have
to give up maybe one cup of Starbux Frou Frou per year. I can easily live with
such a sacrifice to get a better shirt.

I too have been riding on ITS MK2 2.1s. They have a real magic carpet ride
feeling. I got them when Jensen was blowing out their inventory for what
amounted to chump change. I expect the Compasses to sell at premium prices,
but even so I'll have no complaints.

I rode two seasons on Jack Brown greens on my Sam. No flats and plenty comfy.
I highly recommend them. I noticed one of the "glamour" bikes on display at
NAHBS last week was sporting them.

I do not recommend greasing handlebar or brake clamps. you want them to be
up torque and secure not prone to slipping.

A Nitto RN201 saddlebag support rack.
Only available to Japanese domestic market. I have never seen these
