I just installed one tonight by feel and noted the torque recommended is
40Nm, that seems crazy high. I hope I never have to remove one torqued to

40Nm doesn’t seem crazy high in practice. I regularly use a torque wrench
to reach that cassette lockring value. And yet the ring is typically quite
easy to take off, with greased threads of course.
While most of us have a good feel for the needed tightness of various bike
threads, I often prefer

Thanks John and Paul. It is a keeper! The tire size is 27.5 x 2.35 and
makes for a great ride.
All the best,

I removed the Obento Rack/Wald Basket/Nitto Light Mount and dropped the

Thanks to the car-centric development of this our Southwestern city we
often have destinations only a few miles away that you can't ride to on
direct, paved routes. OTOH, thanks to our extensive dirt trails, there are
often off-road workarounds that, if they add 50% or more to the total
distance ar
Ridewithgps lets you build routes on your pc and navigate them through the iPhone app. It does audible directions as well. Normally I build the route on my computer and then load the ride on my bike computer (Hammerhead Karoo or Wahoo Element). I have just used the iPhone app at times. Works great.
Another vote for RideWithGPS + iPhone and/or computer (mine, a Wahoo
Element).

Of course that was an opinion Joe. And because you also noted concern
about having "to remove one torqued to that number," I thought it useful
to introduce my direct experience with lockrings, measured torque
values, and good old Phil grease. Heck, for some reason lately I've been

I think, Luke, part of my response was colored by years of reading some
fellows -- whether here or other digital bike spaces -- disparage the
use of torque wrenches. But even though I didn't mean tough guy by my

Another RideWithGPS user - it has been my go to for route creation (and
ride/mileage tracking) for a long time and it has continued to improve in
its ease of use. I usually export routes and load them onto a Garmin GPS or
into my phone for use with various apps.

Just got some in the mail. Heavy, comfortable, beautiful. The one thing I’d
like to change, don’t really care for the full-bright look. Is there any
way to polish them? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Oh I’m not selling them if anything I’m building a new step through for my

But, I do want them not dull-bright. Not a biggie, but figured I’d through
this out and see if anyone had suggestions or advice.

Adam, let us know what you discover when (& if) you loosed the ring. To my
eye your picture looks like the thin washer on the lock ring shredded (if
there was one - usually is with Shimano in my experience)

One caveat: if you want the verbal (voice) turn-by-turn feature that
ridewithgps offers (for routes), then you will need to pay for either a
Basic or Premium subscription. The free version does not offer this
specific feature:

and indexed rear on my Soma which is pleasant and very, very easy to use.
