I stopped by the show for a short bit on Friday, to say "hi" to some
builders I've known over the years. My shots are not the greatest
quality, but see below:

My custom Riv was built for all-round road riding with possible light
touring. Do-it-all. (Sidebar: this was because I'd always been used
to having only one bike so it didn't occur to me to have different-
purpose bikes.)
The Riv always seemed very light to me compared to the other steel
bikes
I'm sold. I just don't have the money for a new one right now. So I'm
looking for a used Riv. If I don't find one soon I'm going to break
down and buy a 64cm Surly LHT but it will likely be too small. Save
me from this fate!
I'm 95-96cm in the PBH. Comfortable with a seat height of 83 - 84cm.

I actually have 2 pairs of those old aerolite pedals and brand new cleats,
I love them. Willing to sell one pair if anyone is interested. Started

Couldn't you save a (relatively large) amount of weight by having the rear
cassette be 8 gears? But then that wouldn't be modern, would it?

Bill,
I saw that Riv at the Selle Anatomica booth. Anyway, there are some really
beautiful steel bikes. Its my second chance at the NAHBS show( 1st was San

Thanks for posting. The Ritchey commemorative bike looks awesome (though
I'm not crazy about the massive Classic decal on the top tube). The Della

It is interesting to see that a lot of the road bikes in your set were

Gravity Knob! I've thought about weighing my bikes, but usually don't.
Any upgrades I've ever done to them have added weight. Fenders,
dynohubs, racks, leather saddles. Drop bars. I'm looking to move back
to the Bay Area, where I can get by with narrower tires, since the
roads are better, and maybe

Here's the only Riv bike I recall seeing at the NAHBS. Anybody see another?

Rich Lesnik was there. And after we left my son and I ran into Jay Ritchey
and his dad Tom having lunch. Without question the highlight for me was
the people that I got to talk with. I did take about 50 pictures of bikes,
