My wife and I did that ride! Actually a little frightening at times
given the freezing rain and blinding conditions in traffic near the
top, but I have to say I'm glad we did it. Would have felt much better
on a Bombadil for sure!

Jim: I appreciate your ongoing delineation of the group's mission.
It's this focus that attracted me here 3 years ago.
I was about to suggest that maybe it's time for us to create a
parallel Google group. How 'bout the "Rivendell Owners Bunch Off
Topic" (ROBOT) list? There's something really neat
Use lots of red loctite on everything. You heard it here, first.

Inserting the work "Rivendell" does not make a post like this "off topic".

To post to this group,
i am also in brooklyn, and would be very interested in camping near
DIa this summer. As far as I know there is camping on long island as
well, but perhaps montauk is too far. After five years in the city,
and leaving very little. I have realized these little jaunts into
nature, are just what i n
Hi Jim. I’ve had a chance to ride my Rawland a little on trail and
mixed paved/gravel roads and the new, wide Noodle bar you guys added
works well. I am struck the gravel roads I ride in northwestern
Wisconsin are heterogeneous as far as origins, land ownership and
responsibility for maintenance.
Rivendell list the AHH clearance as 38mm with fenders, but is that
actual, or just for a tire labeled 38 mm, which is more likely 35
actual?

The black one is a beautiful bike!
The orange build is not my cup of tea. I'm not even someone who 'oohs'
and 'ahs' over classic parts, and I try to keep in mind that
aesthetics can be quite personal, but... well... let me just say how
much I like the clean lines of the new panniers shown with tha
I have marathon supremes which measure out at 37, and they fit fine
beneath fenders.

Say, those splats would go great with my lucky MUSA pocket
windshield...except I have such good fenders these days...still I hope for a
rain cape some day, even some rain Must have matching fabric...or
not...losing the leather on the splats sounds like a very good idea,
though...those should be
I've run Panaracer T-Serves 700x35 with 45mm SKS fenders and 50mm
Berthoud fenders. The tires seem to run true to size. I had plenty of
clearance with both and imagine I could have squeezed a Panaracer
Pasela 700x37 in there.
Without a fender the biggest tire I've used is a Schwalbe Marathon
700x
Perhaps we should plan an introductory ride at some point so we could
all meet. My wife is decidely NOT interested in bicycle camping so
I'm a bit on my own in these matters myself.
My schedule is pretty flexible until July too. I just haven't been
doing very many miles yet this spring so I'm a
Hi y'all--Kirk sent an update about the PariMoto to the 650b list last week and
I asked him about how he envisioned this tire being used. Based on his
response, I'm more excited than ever about these tires! Well, here's my
question and his answer:
I asked:
There's some discussion/speculation
In my opinion, it's an entry level path into the Rivendell world.
Sure the lugs aren't as pretty and crude compared to a new Riv, but I
picked up my xo-1 for $300, complete. I'm also not worried when I
commute or when I lock the bike up on a Saturday night around town. My
Riv owning friends here i
Thanks, Mike. BTW, I have the Marathon Racer on my tandem and it is
labeled 1.6 (40mm) but is actually 1.5 (38MM)
Anyway, I'm going to proceed on the assumption that I can get a 37 in
and probably a 38.

I'll be there on the Atlantis, and I'm going to ride home(SoCal) after

welcomed. I've never toured before, but I'm really looking forward to
it!

hyperbole because it's an under handed way of calling me a liar. You

"Fire roads" are definitely not flat. Conditions are usually pretty good.
Rocky and rutted in some places, no gravel. There might be jeep-track
heading out from them. If you ever question what a Rivendell is built for,
look no further.
BTW, here's a cool gravel-road race promo for the mid-west:
Another perfect bike outing in SoCal today! Rick led a ride from Chinatown
south criss-crossing the L.A. River. Weather was perfect, a pretty good
showing of adventurous souls, great bikes all around, and good food at the
end. I wasn't super sociable as I was focusing on pulling a 7 y.o. along
