Yes. Gear for gear, a fixed-gear bicycle climbs better than a standard, geared bike (or a single-speed). I speak from experience, including cresting the Continental Divide at 11,000 feet. As Patrick notes, the downhill side of the hill is generally the harder part of the ride. --Eric N On Aug
