Yep, the great secret of fixed gears is that they make climbing easier.
The other thing they do is make you a bit lazy through the "dead spot" (12/6 o'clock), as you get used to the momentum carrying you thought the pedal stroke.
The descent stuff is a great zen practice. Seeing how fast you can spin but trying to staying as relaxed as possible. Through in a couple of s-turns and it becomes a weird exercise in figurative detachment. Feeling the lower half of your body doing all kinds of goofiness whist trying to stay loose and relaxed up top.
