FWIW, my method is simply to cut and add velcro; I leave the pockets on -- they are very useful, especially in winter when one doesn't have access to rear jersey pockets. I favor high rise, pleated, full cut dress trousers for comfort when in the hoods or hooks, of tightly woven gabardine or plain

I wear the wool "semi tights" as winter tights and they are fine. Especially under a pair of shorts. Joneswares makes (in the USa btw) very good stuff, and they are great people to work with. I wear their shorts and jerseys all year round (with/without tights as you might expect) ___

This is atually a topic I've thought about at times. I have some semi-casual pants that I can just barely get away with at work that have a zipper around the mid thigh.
