I have a blue 56cm double tube Sam Hillborne frame/fork with brakes I am
looking to sell. I will post pics.

I've heard great things about both the single and double tubers. That being
said the double tube version makes me smile just a bit more.

This from the Riv site regarding the AHH:
65-71cm: $2400. These sizes come with a second top tube (2tt).
The 2tt adds triangulation and the strength and anti-twisty stiffness that
comes with it, to frames that could use that, due to their longer head
tubes. Some people object to the unusual look
Well, I too choose parts for very largely aesthetic reasons, for that
matter: a (old) Dura Ace seatpost instead of a much cheaper one, Compass
bar when VOs are half the price, and so forth, when practically the cheaper
ones would work as well.
Funny, with my off road bike, as attentive as I am to
What I meant was, that it is, for me, purely aesthetic. Also, knowing that I
can't get a double tube riv in my size, other than a 56 sam, without going
custom, is part of it. Ride wise, I doubt I'm gaining much. I like the look,
it's unique. Mechanically and logically, it makes little sense I'm

Can you elaborate? Why exactly do you like the double tube design?

I also have a 56 dbl tt sam. I Bought it used and I would be lying if I said
that having something that fits me with a, now unproduced, double tube didn't
influence the decision. When I got my hunq I really wanted a diagonal 58, but
couldn't fit it. I totally get the desire for the special extra
I own a 2TT Sam Hillborne and have had a single TT. Both worked great. My 2TT
SH works better than all my other Riv bikes. Less handlebar shimmy for sure.
Maybe those 2TT provide less flex. Another benefit of the 2TT's is that you can
place a full size frame pump between the tubes and it doesn't
IIRC, the tt on my single tt 56 cm SH was 59 -- that must be right, since
my normal road tt choice is about 57 and I know that I had to put the bar
on the SH much higher than I like to get the bar close enough to fit (many
variables here, but the long tt was one reason I sold the Sam).

I believe the double tt Hillbornes had a longer top tube than the later 56s
and 55s. I have a 56 canti Sam with a 57.5cm top tube. I think the
doubles were 59cm. I've always liked the look of the double tubes but also
agree with Patick that the single tt Sam is pretty solid. It is now my

The 2nd top tube makes you part of an exclusive club of big boy riders who near
100 cm PBH's yet love 64cm Bombadils and 68cm single top tube Atlantii like
myself in Michigan, Robert in New Hampshire, Kelly in Missouri, Amit in
Northern California, Ben in Washington, and many others who I do not
A second top tube adds two more stylish lugs to an already handsome frame.

I briefly owned a 56 cm single tt Sam, and the bike was very stout.
