Yeah, Mack!
Lovely video, I especially liked the alley footage, we spend lots of time
meandering about alleyways foraging for fruit so that resonated.
Also nice to put a face to a penpal, here's to many more enjoyable miles
this year, looking forward to the other seasonal updates :)

Good stuff Mack. Love to watch vids of someone just riding because they
love riding their bikes. There's an over abundance of racer vids and
talking head youtuber biker vids already.

I don't know why Grant took you up that steep road when he knows there is a
lovely gently sloping single-track that takes you up to the top of that ridge!

You're right, Mike, using the LCG is one of the secrets to climbing. The
other, as Hugh mentioned is standing and using body weight, letting the
bike move beneith you. What I do is stand till I can't, LCG (lowest common
gear) till I can't, then use climbing rope. Haven't gotten to the climbing

As for summer being over? Manny, you live in the Bay Area, it'll likely get

Great pictures Manny. Looks like you all had a great time.
Of course must point out the Northern Cali definition of Fall is
considerably different from what we in the Northern Midwest think of it ;)

Deacon,
-- the secret to climbing is ... ?
In the handbook it say's to stand up and rock back n forth, by the looks of
Manny' pic's the other secret apparently is to get off and push which IIRC
you have mastered both.

I should add that the main technique I've learned from Grant on climbing
hills, I learned from chapter 4 of "Just Ride." Works great for loaded
touring bikes, though with my vertigo, it took me a year to get rather than
the 10 minutes he suggests. I'm a slow coach. Sardonic grin.
With abandon,
Grand photos! Thanks.
I'll bite on several things:
-- the secret to climbing is ... ?
-- what did you do with the carcass of the 4th rider?

I certainly appreciate the flatness of Portland when I'm riding with my
kids or a big load, but I often miss just stumbling upon a spectacular post
card worthy view while out doing day-to-day things. Have been enjoying your
flickr pics of late. If nothing else they remind me of my days in the

I took off work at 4PM on solstice and rode home. Ate a PBJ and filled
the water bottles on my favorite bike, then headed out at 5PM for my
first over&back of the Colorado National Monument.
