If the Brooks website is to be believed, the primary ingredients for the
current recipe are tallow and cod oil. Probably why they recommend keeping
the tin in the freezer.
Efficacy has probably not diminished, but the only good smelling ingredient
is the last on the list, and I don't see citron
Someone mix butter with your Prooftide? There shouldn't be anything in
Prooftide to go rancid. Mine (beeswax, coconut oil, and a few other oils,
essentially the same as my beard balm, lasts for years at room temperature.

I think it will keep. I buy old mucilin tins (the real thing) for charging
braided leaders for fly fishing - the synthetic replacement doesn't work
near as well.
