I grew up there (Acalanes HS in Lafayette and Berkeley grad) and it
is a beautiful area. Great for cycling, too, not only for mountain
bikes but with growing commitments to bike lanes, bike paths, and
cycling-friendly transit. You can easily get to Riv WHQ via BART
(bikes allowed during non-rush

Has anyone ever noticed that it's some what awkward going to Rivendell
because of it's location. When my buddies and I ride there we always
forget which turn to turn on. We joke that going to Rivendell Bicycle
works is like going to Rivendell in Tolkien's books. Like you have to
know the elven word
Haha - yea, Walnut Creek is kinda upscale. At least the new parts and
downtown around Broadway Plaza (an outdoor mall).
But tucked away behind a car rental place and nestled among auto
repair shops... there's a wonderful place. Kinda like Toei:
