That's funny Cecily. I was laughing reading your reply because now I think I
need to get a Sam for touring. I don't have money and either and I haven't been
on a tour since 2008, but just in case ...

I'd love to write praises of Betty. But I can't yet. Pat rode this bike
when we were in Ca., but never wants to spend money on herself, so we
passed. I leaped when the demo went on sale, so the bike has been
ridden by lots of folks.
When Betty arrived here my shop was full of "stuff" fr

I love riding in the dirt. I was surprised by how much I loved it, but
maybe I shouldn't have been - before my osteoarthritis got really bad, I
used to love trail running, too.
I think with a different set of wheels/tires, Betty could take me on most
of the trails I'd be happiest on in the are
Well the Betty makes a great photo prop too.

That's a great story -- I'd love to collaborate!

Leah, I must have missed your nearly getting kicked off for your
Betty-love. The Betty Foy is one of Rivendell's best selling bikes, coming
close to the Atlantis IIRC. Maybe not as well represented in this online
space, but holding it's own IRL!!!

I'm headed toward the devotee camp myself. A friend just bought a
super-duper high end downhill mountain bike, and I want to accompany her on
some of the less strenuous but somewhat demanding single track rides that I
can't do on the Betty Foy (because I'm too heavy in the saddle). I am

I hadn't compared the Foy to any other Riv models so I can't compare it to
those, but it's definitely far better than any other bike I've owned. I
think you, me, and Pammie should start collaborating on a series of posts.

Yes! Between you, me, and Pammie, I'm sure we could write a lot!

Well, I don't have the Betty Foy -- but I do have a mixte Royal H, in great

Cecily, I'm glad I'm not the only one who vastly prefers the BF - I almost got
kicked off the list when I said it! ;)
I wish there were more BF owners who were writing about their bikes, but maybe
it has to be you and me. A collaborative effort, perhaps!

I hope so, doug. I was looking at photos of the Cheviot on the Blug last
night thinking as nice as it is, it doesn't make my heart flutter the way
my Betty Foy does. Even though it took years to save up for it, I'm glad I
got one when I did.

Maybe bike models are like celebrities in that they get more attention when
they are gone? For instance, a few years back we had a long thread about
whether or not the Rambouillet was the "best Rivendell", and it had been
out of production for some time. So your inquiry about Betty may trigger
