Esteban,
When it is really nasty or if the offroad route in is passable I
commute on my single speed mtb with fat studded tires on it:

It is geared at 32-20.
I also have stud shod raleigh twenty and surly big dummy for when it

Thanks, Esteban! I have the Berthouds installed--had to do a bit of surgery
(dremels are awesome!) to fit the rear fender between the chaistays, and trim
the Daruma bolt to clear the front tire, but it was otherwise pretty
straightforward.
Of course, I'm running 38mm tires, not 42's, so there's
I drilled Berthoud fenders for a flap last February for a Bombadil build -- not
a problem since.

Are those Berthoud fenders? Do you find coverage adequate without a mud flap
up front? I just installed my first set of Berthouds and I'm reluctant to
drill holes for a flap...

Altered-conscious?
I had two great rides with my little people today. First was during a light
drizzle with the 7 y.o, collecting rocks for a school project (design an
animal out of rocks!!!). Second ride going to Trader Joe's during a
downpour w/ the winds blowing the rain pretty much sideways
I think it's his subconscious taking over.
