Stem to end looks fine, and with some wrap materials probably is fine.
But my experience with leather and "cork" is that wrapped stem to end my
hands peel back the edges of the wrapping between the hoods and the
stem. This might not happen with cloth, and certainly won't happen with
shellacke
i've done end to stem, but recently switched over from stem to end. it
looks cleaner.

I have found end-to-stem cotton bartape/twine/shellac gets loose after a
year of riding for me. The twine and cotton rotates like a solid cuff when
it gets loose. Adding shellac gets it to stick to the bar again.
I have since gone to blue lizard skins and twine looks good on it, too. But

Since we're posting bar wraps, here's the latest revision on my Hilsen. I
just went back to drops to fight the May winds, and did the wrap over the
long weekend - plenty of time to let the shellac dry. I kept the diamonds
more subdued this time around...

The shellac covered cloth is not nearly as comfy as the diamond weaved
leather bar wrap. That was pretty thick leather and basically a
double layer. Although since I've owned this frame my bars are not
nearly as low as my previous bike so there is less weight on my
hands. I find it just fine. I
