I'd add a torch/headlamp to your list. Also, you may want to check out crazyguyonabike.com if you haven't already - there are great trip reports which might give you some route/campsite ideas. (You can filter by area etc.) For navigation, a map (or two) is not a bad idea either - Adventure Cyc

Interesting to see a resurrected thread & also to be able to update from my experience swapping hanging rack to a platform rack. The hanging rack was reasonably quick to load, but the combination of scratching the frames, and irregular top-tubes made the process a pain and the top-tube converte

Great project Bill - I recently picked up a copy of the "100 years of Bicycle Data Book", and it's really cool that you're giving it a go. Will be watching your photo thread with interest. Now, just because Eric started... (and said with tongue firmly in cheek): With a Fixie, not shifting feels

The updated brakes and rack looks good, and thank you for bringing up the "brake debate" As Brian eloquently pointed out - brakes are a system, and adjusting or changing components within a system will make it perform differently. I guess I am curious about what you're trying to achieve - is it

I went for a Thule Helium (hanging rack) to fit my Outback. It's selling points were that it is light, and easy to put on and remove. It works very well for "standard" frames (i.e. regular top-tubes), but it needs an adapter bar for curved or "dropped" top-tubes, which is a pain. If I was going

Hi Kieran, Good luck with the travels - I've attached some links I've seen which should give you a steer (DC Rainmaker is quite the traveller, as well as tech guy, an interesting blog to follow). Personally, I've only "travelled with bike" once (Sydney to SF) and had no issues - the bike trave
