Congrats Tony! I'll bet in a few years you're going to be looking for a
triple tandem. :-)

Here's an album with some pics of my Sage Sam. The albatross bars currently
wear maroon cloth tape (not shellacked) which I think goes well with the
sage.

Erl,
The carriage roads are great. I've biked them a few times and always enjoy
them. You'll share them with hikers and even some horse carriages and
probably some riders on horseback. There are over 40 miles of carriage
roads so you could spend a lot of time on them. The park loop road is pave
Erl, this sounds exactly like what I experienced with my Ram last year. I took
it to my LBS and they confirmed that the inner surface of the arm had worn and
would never seat properly. They ordered a new Sugino left crank arm and
installed it. I think the arm itself was surprisingly inexpensive,
Tony,
Good to hear you're 'back in the saddle', and looking forward to seeing the
Saluki re-born.
I know where that picture was taken! I stopped there yesterday while out on
the QB. I think they're going to put a Bike Fixtation there.

I took some really old ski gaiters and strapped them on to the albas. They
don't insulate much, but they do keep the wind from getting to my fingers.
When combined with lobster gloves I'm good into the mid-low 20s for my
commute. Don't have any snow tires for the Sam, but if it snows more than
Nice Bomba! It looks like the perfect bike for the Leesburg loop (one of my
favorite rides around here).
I've noticed those signs for breweries along the W&OD as well, it reminds
me of when Old Dominion Brewing Co. used to be right off the trail in
Ashburn. So tempting.

I carry a few 2" gauze bandages, some large (2" x 4") and medium band aids,

I should probably add some antibiotic ointment.
Luckily I've only had to use my kit once, when a small group of roadies in
a tight group crashed in a pile about 50 feet i
Tony,
That looks great!

Nice write-up. I wish I could convince my wife to do a trip like that.

Looking forward to seeing it in person. April (cherry blossom time!) should be

Tony, I vote for letting it rust. It would just be on the surface, no?
Erl, I dig that setup on the trucker. How do you like that mirror?

It's hard to tell, but is there any room for fenders? On second thought,
you might not want them if you're riding in the snow. I rode out past
Leesburg on Sunday and there was plenty of snow on the trail. It eventually
filled up the space between wheel/fender on the Ram until I had to stop and

My most painful ride was the last 10 - 15 miles of an 80 mile ride. I
realized (too late) that I had not been taking enough breaks, or drinking
enough water.
