Jay,
Sort of hoped there were some Riv riders in the neighborhood, but always
glad to hear of folks visiting New Orleans. We currently live 130 miles
north on I-55 in south Mississippi, but my wife and I met and married in
NOLA and in many ways it is still home for us.
Glad you plan to come ba
I think the Wald removable one is smaller, but the problem is the mounting
piece. Just doesn't move it out of the way enough to get the basket
on/off...

Hey David,
That'd be me on the Trek and Claire on the LHT. We had a great time
pedaling 'round the city during JazzFest. So glad we took some bikes
with us. While the SS fit the bill perfectly for NOLA, Ruffy Tuffy's
have no business whatsoever in the city. ;^) It had been almost 10
years s
Um. Not to interrupt the War of the Moustaches, but I've got a Soma M-
bar that I'd like to sell. It's not Nitto, but I think it's
functionally identical. It can be yours for $40 shipped.

I just got done installing Hetres and 58mm fluted Honjo fenders on my
Saluki. Short story: they fit fine, but some minor surgery is required
at the chainstays to fit the fenders.
I'll enlarge on the story on the 650B list.

That's the big dilemma. While it can be fun to go at a l

If your ring and cog are 3/32", either s
I've done this with a non-removable Newsboy basket, tossing the standard
hardware and using hose clamps but letting the basket hang below the bar and
the brake levers. My brakes were calipers, tho; I don't know if you can get
it to work with cantis.
I may just try this again, on the m-barr'd (Nash
The Quickbeam comes with a 3/32 chain.

Jim, a big congrats on the 200k. Seems like you enjoyed yourself in
spite of the wind and the accident with the dog. Will you do a 300k? I
hope you'll check it out. I think that's my favorite distance.
So far this year I've done a 200k and 300k, both of which have not
been without difficulties. O

Absolutely. "Riding your own ride" is easier said than done, and it

Yep, weather is one big x-factor. Another thing to consider is whether
one rides with friends, tries to keep up with faster riders, or waits
a bit for slower riders, etc. I did some of both, and I'm pretty sure
it added a bit of time to my ride. Not a lot of time, though, and my
companions made th
Yes, the original green QBs came with "road" chain in 3/32" width.
Most likely they still do--as Jim points out, road chain handles
variations in chainline much better than "track" chain (1/8").

uff-da! a 12 hour 200k. with wind, serious bonus miles and a very
unfortunate accident. that's a rough day out, physically and mentally
(the dog thing would have really shaken me up - shook me up just
reading about it). congrats on getting through it, Jim.
i had a ridiculously windy 300k earl
I'm pretty sure the rings and freewheel that come stock on the QB are
3/32". In addition to a snugger grip on the gear teeth, the narrower
derailleur-type chain should have more lateral flex to better
accommodate the slight chainline offsets required to have a 2-sp
single speed.

Anyone know what the stock QB chain width is (for the original green model,
if it has changed)? I have been running 1/8", but it's a little slippy, and
I'm wondering if narrower will be better.
Thanks
Andrew

You received this message because yo
RBW has put out some excellent greens over the years. The Hillborne is very eye
catching, but so were the stock color green editions of the Rambouillet and
Quickbeam. I am very fond of the metallic sage green of my early Saluki too. It
came to me from another cyclist, so I don't know it it was a
Right, but i don't think those clamps will fit these bikes, unless
they have the old skinnier downtubes. It seems like the last time this
topic went around (maybe it was the BOB list), there isn't a clamp
available for oversize steel tubing.
That's a lovely frame - thanks for excellent photos, Br
Hey Eric,
Yes, I tried to ensure that the color was a accurate as possible.
The frame has a really rich metallic green ... something that is
unique but by no means gaudy. Both the decals and the fork detail is
a rich cream color, and the bands around the decals are a purplish
blue.
