A week or so ago, after installing RH
8.0, the Up2Date agent upgraded my kernel from 2.4.18-14 to 2.4.18-17.8.0.
Now I usually think upgrades and updates are a good thing, but this time
around it's been a problem. Using either Gnome or KDE. the panels take
an incredibly long time to load -- almost
Folks:
I've read the man page for iwconfig
and the help file for neat. I've searched Google and the RedHat archives.
I've tried fooling around on my own. The bottom line is that I can't get

After struggling for two weeks to get my Netgear MA401 wireless PCMCIA
card to work in RH 8.0 (kernel 2.4.18-17.8.0), Up2Date upgraded my kernel
to 2.4.18-18.8.0. Naturally, the wireless doesn't work with this kernel. I
went to the prism2 site but it's a

Thank you for the response. Fortunately, my momma taught me good! I do
still have the earlier kernel and am booting to that. As for upgrading the
krenel, when RedHat says there's a known security flaw (or two) and the
upgrade is intended to fix them, isn't that sufficient reason to do

When I first loaded RH 8.0 some months ago, I used Evolution a couple of
times just to try it out. I then let it languish for a while because I
generally use Lotus Notes for my email (I'm a Notes developer). Lately,
I've wanted to give Evolution another shot, in part so I can compare and

As a followup, I tried starting evolution from a terminal. In addition to
the GUI error message I described in my prior message, I got the following
message in the terminal:
evolution-shell-WARNING **: Cannot access Bonobo/ConfigDatabase on wombat:

In reading through this list, I gather my first post on this issue may
have been ignored because I wasn't paying attention to the format my mail

Does anybody know of a way to have the wallpaper change on some scheduled
interval in the Gnome/BlueCurve desktop? I tried chbg but can't get it to
compile -- don't know whether it's my problem (wouldn't be surprised) or
an issue with RH 8.0. If anybody has any experience with chbg on RH 8.0,

I'm in Windoz right now because I still can't use the Netgear MA401
wireless with Linux. So, I can't thank whoever sent me info on where to
find drivers for the card because that email is in my Linux partition...
In any event. I got the drivers and the instructions. Installed and
