It's probably a name resolving issue of (iirc) your hostname (check with
command hostname). If sendmail can't contact the configured dns server
to resolve your hostname, it will wait (hang if you like) until the dns
query times out. This can occur when you use dialup to the Net with a

Thanks Shane. It works, but with 'serviceconf' command that will open the

Hallo list,
What is the name of RH8's USB daemon? Or how can we uninstall this daemon?
I prefer usbmgr daemon. Much better, controlable & less erratic. Moreover &
more importantly: it allows me to play music from my NTFS drive (an 80GB
NTFS drive where I put everything). RH8 only reads & copy

Never Mind, I stumbled across it myself.
Changing LANG in /etc/sysconfig/i18n from
en_US.UTF-8 to en_US did the trick.
Note that i18n is not the most obvious name. :-)

To start MySQL in RedHat 8.0, enter the following as root:

That's the same one I'm booting into as well (2.4.18-18.8.0). I don't
remember specifically which kernel I last booted when it worked as
expected and which was booted when it didn't. I still have the previous
one, so when I get home I may try to boot the old one and see if it makes
any difference
The design of the firewall setting program is somewhat funkity. It ALWAYS
comes up showing you with IT thinks you SHOULD be using for your firewall
configuration not what you are actually using. This is a known bug. It
should have a button somewhere to "Show Current Configuration".

least neither responds when invoked as root.
The error merely says that ./gen and ./autogen do not exist.

RedHat 8.0 comes with a "compat-gcc" (and compat-libstdc++) package

I believe compatibility.

I couldn't understand why you put Kylix3's bin directory to /etc/ld.so.conf
; you have to add the library paths and do ldconfig.
Are the library files of Kylix also stands in /usr/local/kylix3/bin
directory ???
