I'm still having a problem with this. Basically if I recompile the 2.4.18-17.8.0 kernel my USB optical mouse won't work when I boot the new kernel.Changes to the kernel are: add jfs-1.0.24 (jfs filesystem) support and add iptables-1.2.7a support. I've recompiled and followed Markku's advice (below

I bought a Logitech optical mouse and I couldn't be happier. I oculd connect with either ps/2 or usb, I chose ps/2 so I would\ not have to alter /etc/x11configs. I just plugged it in and went to the races. Didn;t even have to reboot. It's quick and accurate. I'm happy. Thanks for input. Ton
