I just checked my installation to see
I appreciate all the help on this. I've downloaded the windows codecs
and put them in /usr/local/win32 as mentioned, but it still isn't
working.
I've tried opening the media file straight from Mozilla and also by
using the open url in mplayer. The Mozilla way asks what application I

Hi Neil,
I think what Don wrote has already provided the answer? With the
necessary codecs you should have it working in no time. I actually
haven't tried opening Windows Media files with Xine, only Divx, for
which I installed the codec from the divx.com site and from the
projectmayo.com site.

First apologies for posting the same twice. I had started to create it
and then stopped and later sent it last night. Then this morning saw it
still in the draft folder, so thought it had not been sent, so opened it
and sent it again. Then I realized that Evolution must keep a copy of

I've got a copy of Xine from:
http://xine.sourceforge.net/index.php?resource=4&action=default
Tried to install it, but as someone not too familiar with Linux things
yet, have not done so successfully. As when I try to install the gnome
bit it complains that some libraries are not available.
