I also had some problems installing Xine when I downloaded it from xine.sourceforge.net. However, after asking for help on the xine mailing list a helpful soul told me to get the redhat 8.0 RPM for xine from http://freshrpms.net which turned out to work quite well. You can get the required packages from there aswel, such as aalib 1.2rc4 I think, and the install also wants to install glut or glub or something which is on CD 3 of RH8. You have to install the xine-libs rpm first and then the xine.rpm
I am quite happy with xine right now. It plays my divx movies very well. Hope you experience the same soon!

Hi,
I've got a copy of Xine from:
http://xine.sourceforge.net/index.php?resource=4&action=default
Tried to install it, but as someone not too familiar with Linux things
yet, have not done so successfully. As when I try to install the gnome
bit it complains that some libraries are not available. I'm sure if I
spent the time reading all the help files it could be done.
Is there another player that will play Windows Media files? There are a
couple of web sites that only have Windows Media files for things I'd
like to be able to view and hear on my Redhat 8.0 laptop.
If I'm not mistaken xine was included with redhat 7.3, but is not
included in 8.0. Anyone know the reason for this?
Thanks for any help.
Neil.

Where did you get this xine from?
