We have solved this problem - the key was to
add the FORWARD_IPV4 command in the
/etc/sysconfig/network file.
We tried the rc.local and that did not work.

Has anyone tried to set RH8.0 to come up to the
plain text login screen?
Used to be we would set /etc/inittab to go to
init level 3 instead of init level 5, but RH8.0
still comes up to the GUI login screen after the
changes!

A ping and hostname shows that the host name is set. Gateway is
too, we can ping the outside world
sm-client still freezes on startup.
Any ideas ?
