Anyone know why poweroff fails (halt -p) with RH8 on
Dell Dimension 4500?
Shutdown ends with line saying "Power off" but power
does not go off, need to manually turn it off.
I would appreciate any insight on this issue.

I have a few odd thing that are wrong in my Redhat 8 Install that are
starting to irritate the hell out of me. I haven't had these on previous
installs but I really don't feel like installing and restoring files and all
that if it can be fixed simply.
1) CLI the button makes a '~'
2) Man pages -
is data-ordered really that much slower, I don;t think I really noticed a
difference. BTW, wasn't the default data-journal in previous releases,
imagine how slow that would be for you then:)

I've been trying to find "howto" sites on configuring a simple PXE
server to install Redhat. So far, I have gotten it to work somewhat. I
have it installing a custom redhat install via NFS. I'm having problems
with the initial display menu from showing up.
For example in my:
./pxelinux.cfg/defa
I mananged to install synaptic but my GUI's are still
freezing up in the dependencies phase. I don't know
how
to run them from the terminal to look for errors.

and in the diagnostics, there was an option to find a new default IRQ.

I installed 7.3 and 8.0 on a Tecra 8000 from cd and nfs. Never had any
problems except for getting the sound going. Check on www.laimbock.com
and search for tecra and you will find an article describing how to get
it going. I did have to use boot floppies as booting from cd doesn't

As far as I know, AVA series is not a bootable SCSI card. Often it's being used to
attach SCSI peripheral such as scanner, ZIP or other non-bootable device. So, if U
try it, it won;t work.

I have an AVA 2904. My IDE-drive is a 4Mb flash disk. At the moment I have
it formatted ext3 and it holds GRUB, the booting kernel and the initrd of
the distro. I had to do that manually, because the installer of RH doesn't
accept a boot partition this small. The SCSI is fully functioning under
45 matches
