Yes I know, thank goodness! The SPSS equivalent has kept me from suicide a few
times.
The file does get rather big and afaik there is no time/date indication. But I
was just curious if the option exists - don't file this as a request.
Thanks

Ok, thank you for the syntax and its explanation. But please don't mind
that for me - just a simple click, paste and modify guy - this syntax
is not easy to have in mind if I would like to match files in a hurry.
Then I will use R Commander instead. There I have only to click and it
works. :-)
I agree about adding analyses to PSPPIRE but I have to disagree about
merging files (adding variables). I find it *far* easier to use syntax:

I also use the syntax in the way, you described, Alan. Hence, it is an
argument in favour of implementing some important commands in the GUI.
This morning I liked to merge some files but because the command is not
implemented in the GUI and not easy to understand in the manual, I

You might find some guidelines here. Raynald web site is one of the most

Thanks Alan. What is the best approach, in your opinion, to learning the
syntax for these types of expressions? Again, I wholly relied upon the GUI
in SPSS. I did take a look at the PSPP manual, but did not immediate see
examples of the structure of the syntax.
Thanks,
Allen
