just use binaries to make your life easier.
when compiling you need the libraries. usually look for *-devel of the
library in question.

Well, i'm not an expert on this man but did you follow the installations
steps from nagios website? Are there pre-compiled binaries for your distro.?
Installing from source code is good but you have to read the pre-requisites.
Just my suggestion and check for directory/folder permissions and
