version 8.2, using the filemon.exe utitlity to track down file permission

I did not follow the past threads, but have you looked at what the event

Anyone have any suggestions?
I have tried different versions and everything I can think of but have run out
of ideas. It is frustrating. I really would like to use postgresql.. if I
could only get it to install! ;-)

Hey,
I am working on testing our windows version of software
which uses postgress on a machine with XP Pro and 512
meg of memory.
The very first time I installed, it was fine except for the
fact it was only listening on the localhost 127.0.0.1

I have been trying to install postgresql 7.4 and 8.0
with no success. Found what I believe to be rpm's for

Dear Wayne,
Hum! you are not following exactly the instructions for a "Short Installation"
which is:
./configure

gmake install
adduser postgres
mkdir /usr/local/pgsql/data
chown postgres /usr/local/pgsql/data
su - postgres
/usr/local/pgsql/bin/initdb -D /usr/local/pgsql/data
/usr/local/pg
If I understand your description of the problem sufficiently, I believe
you're
running into trouble at the "su postres" step.
Although I'm quite new to postgres, I do know that creating a user
account
named "postgres" is recommended, if not required, by the installation
process.

We can't help you from such a handwavy description. Show us *exactly*
what you typed and *exactly* what messages you got (cut-and-paste from
your terminal window is good), an
I am using SuSE 8.0 Professional Linux and installing
postresql 7.4 by placing the tar files in /temp and
untar and unzip and followed the short install
procedure.
Log in as root
./ configure
gmake
gmake install
useradd
mkdir /usr/local/pgsql/data
chown postgres /usr/local/pgsql/data
su postgres
