Many thanks Dave and Joe for the replies.
It looks likely then that I may have to look for a more current alternative.

hi guys, I have been asked by friends to be the Jock at their new year
karaoke party.
I have never done such a thing before, and I'm now in a panic.
If anyone can advise me or give me some tips on running this party, it would
be great.
The other query; I'm going to use my laptop computer for pla
Hi folks!
I again dare to open the can of worms which is the encoding of music which
is downloaded from the internet.
But today I have a different slant.
For reasonably new stuff I do not believe that you can compromise especially
when it comes to music with large orchestras. 320 mp3 3
Here's the big problem, how are you going to get the lyrics up for the
singer to see them? In many situations, there's a screen that has the
lyrics so the person can refer to them while sining.

Richard, I was thinking of connecting the laptop to a wall mounted
television, and that is where a dedicated karaoke player would do its stuff

Hi. I have a feeling winamp is going to be your friend through this. First
of all most karaoke songs use standard mp3's with a cdg file which is the
video file containing lyrics. With winamp and a few plugins it is possible
to have everything ready to go in one shot. Plus, using the winamps jump
Once music started being recorded on tape, (1950 and later), the quality is
sufficiently good that you might not want to compromise. Prior to that, you
can get away with it more. On the other hand, do you want to risk
introducing even more degradation to something that's already pretty bad?

hi Brett, The winamp road seems like the best way to go as you say.
The files in question will be mp3 cdg mostly.
I was just looking for some kinda player to play these files in zip format,
which would be a lot easier to choose, but I like the sound of winamp.
Can you tell me the latest winamp v
You can get away also with lower bitrates with metal, provided it's 192
kbps. For older music from the 60's and back, the technology of the time
wasn't as good, and they weren't harnessing stereo to it's fullest. Take the
beatles for example, allot of their stuff is split, you'd have the vocals
Hey. I don't know the latest winamp version but I seem to recall some kind
of karaoke plugin that not only displays the cdg but also will open a zip
file.
I could be wrong or the plugin could be out-of-date.
I'll poke around a little and see what I find and I know there are some
hardcore winamp
thanks for this Brett,

Hi I have been using Express Burn for about a week now and the other day.

The program told me that my free trial was going to expire soon.
It wanted me to click to see what purchasing options were avliable.

Well, the stereo was different in the 70's, but I don't know if you can say
it was better. Certainly what Hendrix, Zappa, and others were doing with
stereo in the 60's was arguably a much fuller exploitation of the
possibilities of stereo than what went on later. And it's very hard to claim

I use a NAD amplifier with a good pair of british speakers and an older
Emagic USB sound card which was when it came out supposed to be very high
quality.
So you will understand why I am asking about bit rate now.
Also another thing that prompted my question: I am getting some stuff from
