Hi. I have a feeling winamp is going to be your friend through this. First
of all most karaoke songs use standard mp3's with a cdg file which is the
video file containing lyrics. With winamp and a few plugins it is possible
to have everything ready to go in one shot. Plus, using the winamps jump
feature you can jump to whatever song a person wants to sing. It's most
likely going to be the most accessible way of doing this.
I'm not sure about .kar files but I suspect they're midi files with lyrics
built-in. If this is all you have to work with the file sizes will be
considerably smaller. The advantage over the mp3 / cdg files is that the
music is authentic and usually contains backing vocals as well.
I think this is a .kar player for winamp as well. Again winamp is kind of
the standard for most people because it's so easy to use and manipulate. The
few karaoke player I have used were not accessible or were very hard to
access using mouse keys and such.
Good luck!

Subject: karaoke night.
hi guys, I have been asked by friends to be the Jock at their new year
karaoke party.
I have never done such a thing before, and I'm now in a panic.
If anyone can advise me or give me some tips on running this party, it
would be great.
The other query; I'm going to use my laptop computer for playing the KAR
tracks, and I'm wondering if there is a good accessible piece of software
to play these files?. I realize there are add ons for winamp and WMP, but
I would rather have a dedicated karaoke playing program if possible.
Any help or advice in this matter would be much appreciated indeed,
Billy
