Regarding the battery issue I was having. I wasn't aware of the fact
that the manual suggests you take batteries out ... But I strongly
suspect that the unit isn't expected to drain an entire AA battery
within 12 hours when it is switched off. Would you expect that
behaviour?

In my view they're the best advance we've had in consumer battery technology in
the last 30 years.
I've been using mine for the last 4 months nearly and they haven't missed a
beat but then again I was brought up by the old school in battery thinking,
flatten them then charge them then flatten
