Because of M-Audio's problems with Windows Media Center, I am thinking about
abandoning my Delta 66 soundcard and acquiring a new card or, perhaps
installing XP Pro.

The control still displays as mic/line in.
One thing I read in the manual is that the line in will override the
microphone when using both inputs.

These things are normally handled by your recording program.
But some of the cards comes with applications for such ajustments, too.
I don't know, if forinstance sound forge overrules the setting of the card.
