Hi
The reason why they won't repair the stream in this case is
because the new units are as dear as replacing the circuit
boards.

Hi Joe,
You can get a card reader from Radio Shack for ten dollars or so. I have a
first generation stream and never use the USB port to connect it. It is so
much faster to transfer files using a card reader.
This would be a very inexpensive way to fix your problem.

I had a similar problem with my first generation Stream. I sent it back to

They said I could either transfer items using an external card
Hello Joe. Perhaps the USB port on your stream has failed. You could
purchase a card reader and download your books onto your storage card.
Otherwise, you may have to send your stream in for repair or even purchase a
new one depending on the repair costs. I'm sorry that this has happened to
you. Un

Once you've done that, you may select the recording format.
