When you say "rip them yourself," what media are you talking about? Usually,

the same way BARD is. The reasons that didn't work are the exact same

It's not theft if the person it's being copied from doesn't actually lose
anything. Did you copy a tape growing up? Same thing. All you're doing is
just copying another file. That it happens to be a digital file is
irrelevant.
