Hello Robert, Sorry to put a downer on you, but that's not a true subwoofer. Looking at the specks on that speaker system, the so called subwoofer doesn't go low enough. In order for it to be a true sub, it needs to be 20 HZ to 15 KHZ. If I remember looking at the specks correctly, it says, "40

High Bob, You are correct, it does require allot of power to drive it. And you can't get that power from a USB port. Even though your lab top and desk top computers have 12 volte power supplies in them, your USB ports are only putting out 1.5 volts. That's not enough juice to power a subwoofer.
