FYI, I have successfully chain loaded OI grub to Linux's GRUB2.
I just had to add an entry
title Linux
rootnoverify (hd1,0) -- in my case
chainloader +1
and it successfully hopped to linux's grub on my second disk.

I fail to re-install Grub on a host, and don't understand what I'm doing

partition 2 solaris (actually with OpenSolaris on it, not OI), bootable
