I assume you refer to the openid parameter. This parameter is not general
purpose but problem specific. Thus it is in my opinion not suited as an example
for a general purpose standard.

I would agree... if I believed the 99.99%, but not if it will be 80% and
falling in a year or two.
A major benefit of OAuth2 is that resource
case alone.
