The first returning Short-billed Dowitchers, Pectoral Sandpiper (Cupsogue,
today), and both yellowlegs species have already shown up in Brooklyn and
Long Island in the last couple days. A cold front passing through Friday
could bring more migrants.

That was exactly my thoughts when I was there on July 3rd and I did a loop of
the pond checking but did not spy any nest. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

It's interesting that multiple reports from 30 June onwards are of a single
bird when the original two birds were acting very much like a mated pair.
Wood Ducks appear to be nesting close to this pond and I wonder if the

I must object to the characterization of this pond in Nissequogue SP as
algae-covered. I've looked at several photos posted to eBird, and the pond is
covered with duckweed:
