Unfortunately I'm receiving mail where accented characters so common in
Italian are substituted simply by '?'.
How can I fix it up?

Anyway, thank you for the info and for being so timely.
Now, I'm not in the habit of using vim as my pet editor but emacs. Can
I substitute it into Mutt in some way?
For instance in your .muttrc file:
