I have had an Eastern Towhee coming to my feeders in East Grand Forks (western
Polk County)since 11/1. It is still here today, 12/1, to be claimed for the
winter season, along with a Harris's Sparrow.

I still have an Eastern Towhee and a Harris's Sparrow feeding in my yard in
western Polk County (East Grand Forks). The towhee has been here since November
1 and was still here today (December 7) at 5 p.m. I also still have one
White-throated Sparrow.

A few recent arrivals in western Polk County (East Grand Forks) include Common
Nighthawk, Chimney Swift, Red-headed Woodpecker, and Indigo Bunting. First RT
Hummingbird finally showed at my feeders last Friday.

Greenway near the

I have seen a White-throated Sparrow in the yard yesterday and today (East
Grand Forks, western Polk County). This is the earliest I have on my fall
records for the past several years. Previous arrivals were all in September.

In the cemetery in Crookston, MN (Polk County) this evening, there was a flock
of about 12-15 Red Crossbills, both males and females. They were seen feeding
in a spruce tree just to the left after you enter the main gate. Also seen was
an Olive-sided Flycatcher.

I had only been seeing 1-3 Pine Siskins at my feeders this winter until about 2
days ago when 25 showed up. Yesterday and today I'm seeing about 20.

I had my first White-crowned Sparrow of the season in the yard today in East
Grand Fork, Polk County. Yellow-rumped Warblers finally moved in on Sept 9 and
Orange-crowned on about Sept 7.

I just had a brief visit from a male Evening Grosbeak in my yard in East Grand
Forks, Polk County. New yard bird and only the second time I've seen one in
town here in the last 4 years.

I found a pair of Pine Grosbeaks in Polk County today, at the cemetery
Crookston. Also a flock of about 40 Snow Buntings on Polk Cty 17 on my way
there.

A rather late immature White-crowned Sparrow showed up at my feeders this
morning in East Grand Forks (Polk County). That's a December first for my yard.
I also have 2 White-throated Sparrows coming daily but I had one over-winter
last year so it's not too surprising.

flew to a utility pole way out by the railroad
tracks behind the Anderson's and perched at the top. I stayed in the car and
just watched from there so as not to disturb it. I saw no other woodpeckers
while I was there, just a few Blue Jays, Chickadees and House Sparrows.

I found my 5th Snowy Owl in Polk County this afternoon on Polk County 18 (320th
Ave SW), between 200th and 210th St. SW, or 4.6 miles north of Highway 2.
Joanne Johnson also reported one this morning just east of Fisher, MN, also
Polk County).

As of yesterday, at the East Grand Forks sewage lagoons in Polk County, I
counted close to 90 Eared Grebe nests. I assume this will likely be the last
year for thsee sewage lagoons as I have heard they are “soon to be
decommissioned”.

I was just picking up sunflower seed in Crookston at SunOpta/Dahlgren's on
about the 1200 block of Main St. and 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES flew over and
landed by the road, across the street from the big elevators, then flew up to
the power lines. Of all the times I've picked up seed there o
sides of the county
line, and a few Stilt Sandpipers on the Polk side. Not many ducks present
currently, but there are Canada geese, pelicans, cormorants, Great Blue Herons,
a Great Egret, and Black Terns.

Monday - Brown-headed Cowbird
Tuesday - Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Purple Finch Wednesday, along the Red Lake
River Greenway in EGF, FOY Hermit Thrush. Also of note were quite a few more

Brown-headed Cowbird (other than 1 in my yard awhile back).
Also still present were Common Mergansers and, on the Marshall County side of
Agassiz Valley there were over 100 Greater White-fronted Geese. Not much for
shorebirds yet at either place, just a few yellowlegs.

EARED GREBES are beginning to build nests at the East Grand Forks sewage ponds
again this year. There were probably close to 300 or so grebes. I had checked
about 8 days ago and could not see any sign of nesting building at that time.
Unfortunately, I don't know how many more years these ponds
Wayne is also reporting 2 Black-necked Stilts “in similar area as the Glossy
Ibis sighting”.
