Thanks for the points. I do a reindex whenever there's a distribution that
has previously been indexed by PAUSE, but suddenly goes missing from the
index, for whatever reason. This has happened several times. But this time
I did a 'reindex *' which is an overkill. I've added a warning and delay to
Record update in the PAUSE users database:

You had a bunch of releases fail to index, in the wee hours of today (UK time).
All of them were due to the existing release on CPAN having a higher version
number.
I wondered if this was down to a tool going awry, so letting you know, in case
you hadn’t seen this.
