i'd like to buy a FireWire Card to capture some video streams
from my brand new miniDV camcorder. What would be a good card
to buy, that has good support in Linux?
I'd like to then capture video streams and convert them in a
way that lets me process them with MJPEG tools.

I am running RH 8.0 with the latest Avifile source (0.7.32). I have
downloaded and compiled the CVS version. The 'configure' script seems
to find the avi library. So, I didn't define the --with-aviplay.
Now the issue at hand. When I run the divxdec command, I get the
following message:

Thanks, that helped. By "modified", I take it you mean the patched tar

I am unable to extract the audio track from an avi file I
captured with streamer. The error messages is telling me to "choose norm with
+[np] param." I get a similar error from lav2yuv. The help says
nothign about his para Could someone please direct me to the documentation

My source material is a 4:3 ntsc dvd at 24fps. First, I encoded with no
options to take this into consideration. I got 30fps out and both
hardware and software players play it, but, there is a slow-fast-slow
rhythm you can notice, for example, when people walk.
