the flicker was there also, I just hadn't noticed it..
My guess is that it's the result of a to strong signal from the cable
decoder.

I found the problem, the card was just making crackle and pops
when I tried to record with another (home made) program, so I moved
the card to a different PCI slot.
That solved the problem.
