if no. What exactly is trigger support (SNDCTL_DSP_[GS]ETTRIGGER), as I
read it it is a method to pause the playing/recording. but can somebody
clarify this for me.

Just a little warning I couldn't get today's libquicktime from cvs to
produce files... but the libquicktime-0.9.2pre1 works great...
the cvs version produces:
"quicktime_open: error in header"
and then hangs (kill -9 is required)
