Well, some of the stories told in this thread were certainly entertaining.
Anyway, figured I'd follow up with the results of the weekends work.
Using the following hardware:
440BX motherboard
2 Linksys EG1032(sk) cards
P-II 450 MHz
3.6 since I didn't have any 3.7 CD's of floppys around.

I recently upgraded my net connection from 10 to 100 Mbit, and not
surprisingly my old P-II 233 MHz didn't quite cut it anymore.
I'd get to around 45 Mbit throughput, at which point the irq load would
shoot to 90+%.
