I've seen some benchmarks showing the Mtron mobi 3000 (the drive I
have) blasting 7000 seeks a second and going the full 100MB read, 80MB
write. This is not expected over pciide. I'm trying to hack ahci to
not panic on boot :).

nowhere close to the Mtron):

I'm pleased that they were this fast. And I also agree that the next
generation will be much faster, however this drive has shown that it
does perform to its specified 100/80MB read/write.

that the system bus could be choking a bit. The numbers that have
been produced in other benchmarks are right around 100/80 read/write.
I'm not entirely sure that the system board that I have is the
greatest to achieve this on.
