If the particular packages you are after won't take forever to build, another
option is to cvs checkout the current tree for base, ports, and x. Build it all

use mp3 as the audio format)
will go out of sync when using vlc. Better to use mplayer in these cases (or
smplayer/kmplayer for a GUI). Experiment with which video output driver suits
your machine. You will still sometimes get screen tearing if/when your video
card can't keep up, but no sync problems.
