I think we should abandon the phrase 'Irish Potato Famine'.
The potato crop, which for a variety of reasons Irish peasants relied upon,
failed. Food continued to be exported from the island and little was done by
the English colonial government to alleviate the situation. In fact, they
thought

however, is that once agriculture had advanced enough to nourish all the
world's people, famines only became even more common and horrific, a direct
result
