I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're trying to do, but if you're
referring to moving mail with alt+cmd+T, then I'd suggest you rename the
sources. Of the left column, right click on the source and rename it to what
ever you'd like. That way, when moving a message with alt+cmd

expecting the source to prepend the folder into which the message was being
moved. Instead if the destination is ambiguous, the source is appended to the
destination following '--'.

I hate to admit I don't know this, since I suspect it's a built-in OS X
shortcut, but what is the keyboard method for moving focus from the
Mailboxes pane to the Messages pane, and vice versa? I usually have
Message View open as well, for what it's worth.

Key above tab is on german keyboard ^ and with Shift ° Cmd + ^ tries to
crash mail mate while on viewer window :-)
