Have you tried toing a clean install of Lion? I've heard about people having
issues when doing the normal upgrade, and have heard that doing a clean install
helped.

I had this happen as well.
Go to Adium preferences.
Under the Events tab, navigate to the events table.
Expand the section that says, Contact signs on.
If you see something that says, Display Growl notification, press the delete
key and it should delete that preference.

You may need to go to system preferences, then users and groups, then interact
with, "users, accounts, and login options."
Navigate down to where it says, "login options group."

If it is a PDF, preview may work. But I'm not sure if it will work if the book
